Back

Ah, mum I'm sure I can swim faster than a crocodile - please let me try   Don't worry, should this one sink we always keep another in reserve

They Came to the Red Sea

It can be quite a challenge getting to some village churches. We drove as far as we could but this river was in the way, not to mention the 100 metre drop down to the water's edge.

River Transport

Our way across was a canoe made from a hollowed out log. No life jackets here and, yes, there are crocodiles in the water!

Phew, Doctor Kane, I'm glad someone else has to carry your husband

Don't look now girls, but it's got twelve legs, it's red and hairy, and it's coming this way

Taxi Service

A fleet of bicycles took us from the other side of the river - an hour's walk reduced to ten minutes of sheer panic or pleasure, depending on your point of view.

Children's Choir

A veritable band of angels singing heavenly music and attired in all the colours of creation.

It may be dark and gloomy inside, but it's a great for playing hide and seek

The low door means that when my Mum is chasing me I can always get out first

Village Church

The local people built their own church. They made the bricks, cut poles for the roof, and thatched it themselves.

Local Housing

Most homes are constructed in this fashion, either square or round, with clay pressed into a network of wooden poles.
