The following song was written to express something of the maelstrom of emotions faced by every new missionary. We have recorded the song as an mpeg file that can be downloaded and played by clicking on the image opposite

Then I saw this Place

Sharon Kane

I thought God’s call was only there for super saints
Meant for someone else but not for me,
‘God could never use me’
That’s how it used to seem
The mission field remained a far-off dream
Then I saw this place, now I’m a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind
I’ve been called, and I belong here
I couldn’t leave here if I tried
I thought the work was never going anywhere
Seemed the more we tried the less we saw.
What’s the use in praying?
All you get is pain
Everything just carries on the same
Chorus
I thought I’d never learn to speak in Portuguese
With its little squiggles and silly hats!
The people talk so fast
It leaves me feeling trapped
In a maze of sounds without the jolly map.
Chorus
I thought there was no hope for such a land as this
Full of lies and selfishness and greed
There can be no change
Until the people hear
Of the God in heaven whose grace is ever near
But God is in this place, and I’m a believer
There’s not a trace of doubt in my mind
We’ve been called, and we belong here
We couldn’t leave here if we tried
