The following song was written as a modern
Christmas carol, originally as an entry for a competition run by FaithWriters, the popular internet site for Christian writers.
We have recorded the song as an mpeg file that can be downloaded and played

See him cross the unbridgeable chasm
Sharon Kane
As the oceans condensed in a dew drop,
As the heavens encased in a gem;
So lies God wrapped up snug as a baby
In a crib in obscure Bethlehem.
As eternity caught in a heartbeat,
As all light filtered through a lone
star;
So our God squeezes into our frailty,
The Creator steps down from afar.
See Him cross the unbridgeable
chasm
To pay our impossible debt.
The immortal entangled in soft
human flesh
Comes to share in our physical
death.
The great mind which envisioned creation
It is void now and shrouded in mist.
Mighty hands which once fashioned the
mountains
They are balled into miniature fists.
And that voice which called light into
being
Now wordlessly whimpers and cries,
While the heart where true love had its
birthplace
Beats in rhythm to soft lullabies.
See Him cross the unbridgeable
chasm
To pay our impossible debt.
The immortal entangled in soft
human flesh
Comes to share in our physical
death.
Condescending to live in the shadows
He raises us to his marvellous light;
For his glory once veiled in a manger
Now fills heaven with splendour and
might.
Joyous hearts lost in pure adoration
Beholding his radiant face;
We will kneel at his pierced feet in worship
Being held by his infinite grace.
See Him cross the unbridgeable
chasm
To pay our impossible debt.
In the child who stepped down
from the courtyards of heav'n
All the yearnings of man are now
met!
