The Kanes in Mozambique

Listen to an African Choir

Several months ago I met with members of our Moatize church to record a number of the popular hymns that they sing in the Chewa language. I subsequently transferred these recordings to our Saber portable MP3 players so that people in the rural areas could memorise the words and tunes. Literacy levels are generally low in our rural churches and we have made extensive use of the Saber in allowing people to listen to the Scriptures, as well as to a selection of Christian teachings, all in their own languages.

For each of the following Chewa hymns, clicking on the picture should bring up a pop-up box that will automatically play the song selected. In certain circumstances your internet browser may ask for your permission to open the pop-up. Enjoy and feel free to clap along!
